Position Description


What you will do for Harris County Precinct 2:

The Student2Government Leadership Academy is designed to help teens foster a culture of service, build character, establish a place of belonging, and develop strong social, emotional, and civic leadership skills. With the help of communityn leaders, the Student2Government Leadership Academy creates a safe space for teens to direct their energy and passion for civic leadership. Participants will be eligible for a stipend upon completion of all components of the academy.

The internship will run from June 17th, 2025 to July 15th, 2025.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify Community Needs
  • Identify common issues faced by high school students
  • Participate in service learning projects
  • Lead special community events
  • Take part in and help develop volunteer projects

Requirements

Internship Requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled in a high school in Harris County and be a rising junior or senior

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Work in a cooperative manner with other participants and project coordinators.
  • Ability to problem solve and must have basic computer skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times

General Information

Position Type, Salary and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular | Internship 
  • Hours: 1PM to 4:30PM typical hours, but hours will vary due to program activities.
  • Stipend: $200 at the completion for the Academy.

The internship will run from June 17th, 2025 to July 15th, 2025.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • This job operates in a both a clerical, office setting and outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Noise level in the work environment is usually average.  
  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance.
