JOB TITLE: Facilities Technician 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

FT/PT: Full Time

 

 

SUMMARY      

The Facilities Technician, under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities will perform general maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of equipment and facilities.   Duties may also include but are not limited to basic plumbing, paint, drywall patching, equipment, and furniture assembly. 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Routine building maintenance including but not limited to minor drywall patching and paint, touch up of walls, hanging of pictures/whiteboards/bulletin boards, spot cleaning of carpets, caulking, replacing ceiling tiles, installing light bulbs, changing ballasts, basic plumbing (clearing clogged drains, replacing faucets/toilets/hose bibs/ball valves)
  • Assemble, install, or repair office furniture, shelving, benches, and other 
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Clean and sanitize large walk-in Freezer Morgue weekly or as needed.
  • Set up and breakdown rooms and facility for special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High school diploma (or GED/proficiency certificate).  
  • Post-Secondary Certificate in construction trades, mechanic and repair technologies preferred. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.  
  • Minimum 2 years experience in any of the following facility maintenance, plumbing, electrical, construction or machinery repair. 
  • A valid class C driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to learn how to use a forklift and be able to complete the California forklift certification.  
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft suite and email.
  • Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Must come to work regularly and on time. Must be able to work early hours according to the needs of the department schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  

WORKING CONDITIONS

Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
