Description

Position Overview: Miles McClellan Construction is seeking an eager and dedicated Human Resources (HR) Intern to support our HR team. This internship will provide hands-on experience and exposure to various HR functions with a primary focus on generalist work, including recruitment, employee relations, training, and administrative tasks specific to the construction sector. You will gain valuable insight into the HR practices that keep our construction teams efficient, safe, and compliant with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring process for construction workers, site supervisors, and administrative staff, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, and scheduling interviews.
  • Help coordinate onboarding processes for new hires, ensuring all paperwork is completed and new employees are properly inducted into safety protocols, company policies, and role expectations.
  • Support the HR team with ensuring all employees have the necessary certifications, safety training, and documentation to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, certifications, and safety training.
  • Help with organizing and coordinating safety training sessions, tool-box talks, and job-specific skill development workshops.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive employee relations environment by supporting the team with resolving any workplace conflicts or concerns.
  • Assist in addressing employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, and workplace issues.
  • Observe and assist in resolving employee concerns or conflicts in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Support HR team in conducting employee engagement initiatives and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Track and report on employee performance, attendance, and safety compliance on construction projects.
  • Contribute to employee recognition and engagement programs, creating materials to promote team morale.
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team, including preparing reports, presentations, and documentation for HR audits and compliance checks.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an associates or bachelors degree. Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Interest in the construction industry and human resources functions specific to construction operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with workers at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience or internship in HR or construction is a plus.
  • Familiarity with construction industry-specific safety regulations, labor laws, and HR software is a bonus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees across various business units.
