Description

JOB SUMMARY: The maintenance of optimal health for every patient through the provision of healthcare services is the goal of every healthcare provider. The physician and nurse practitioner, in collaborative practice, combine the unique skills of each provider in a team approach. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in their own healthcare, thus completing the team. The quality of health care delivered to the patients through this team approach surpasses that which is provided in a traditional practice setting.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties delegated to the Nurse Practitioner by the collaborating Physician can be extensive, and may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:


  1. Eliciting a detailed and accurate history, performing a comprehensive physical examination, identifying problems and recording pertinent data in a professional format.
  2. Consultation with appropriate healthcare providers, including the supervising physician.
  3. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  4. Issuing prescriptions of appropriate controlled and non-controlled drugs, devices and immunizing agents.
  5. Obtaining and/or reviewing such routine diagnostic studies as common laboratory tests, radiological films, electrocardiographic tracings, etc.
  6. Formulating an initial diagnosis and/or differential diagnosis and instituting appropriate treatment, including the writing of outpatient prescriptions and inpatients order.
  7. Performing therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, incision and drainage of superficial infections, cast application and follow-up simple fractures, and others, only when credentialed to do so. 
  8. Counseling and instructing patients on issues concerning physical and mental health, including diet, disease prevention and therapy, normal growth and development, family planning, situational adjustment reactions, and others.
  9. Be knowledgeable of, and follow the administrative Incident To and Non-Incident To Policy
  10. If applicable, assisting the physician in the inpatient setting by conducting patient rounds, recording progress notes, determining and implementing therapeutic plans jointly with the collaborating physician, in addition, compiling and recording pertinent narrative case summaries.
  11. May be exposed and responsible for the handling of hazardous drugs.  
  12. Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency, as well as all other yearly NYS and HR Guidelines.


RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS: Direct relationship with patients/families, physicians and staff.


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Current advanced Practice Register Nurse (APRN) Licensure
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and if department required, ACLS and PALS
  • Strong computer skills, including EHR


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Classification of work level: Heavy. Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 100 pounds using proper body mechanics. Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax and telephone. Requires hearing and vision that is adequate to perform job duties.  


Salary Description
$43.27 to $65.86 per hour
