Job Description

JOB DEFINITION AND PURPOSE

Functions as a skilled technician who is able to perform diagnosis and repair in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair.  Tasks may include: diagnosis of malfunction, performance of repairs, and road test vehicles.

Performs vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned and in accordance with dealership and factory standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnoses cause of malfunctions on vehicles and performs repairs as authorized.
  • Communicates with the Parts Department to obtain needed parts and ensures parts received are listed on the repair order.
  • Examines vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required and advises the Service Foreman if additional work is needed or if outlined work is not needed.
  • If repair is under warranty or if requested by the customer, tag, save and turn in parts.
  • Performs warranty parts replacement and documents work performed.
  • Road tests vehicles to ensure repair has addressed the customer’s complaint.
  • Quality check work performed.
  • Attends factory-sponsored training classes and keeps abreast of factory technical bulletins and product update changes.
  • Maintains company vehicles and tools.
  • Cleans shop area continually as jobs are completed and empties trash barrels.
  • Ensures that customer vehicles are kept clean.
  • Understands and follows federal, state and local regulations governing service repair work.
  • Follows all safety rules to avoid injuries to self and others; reports conditions which are unsafe to resolve safety problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. Two-year degree from technical school preferred. 3 years of experience with truck repair.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and to individual customers.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written.
